Wrinkling and Breast Implants
Fact of life or not, no one likes wrinkles. Some think that wrinkles on the breast are considered to be even more concern than those on the face, especially when they paid top dollar to have those breasts look great.
Wrinkles or rippling are terms that cosmetic surgeons use often in breast enlargements. When having your first consultations with a board certified cosmetic surgeon make sure to ask about this complication and about ways that may help to prevent it.
Saline implants tend to have more of the wrinkled affect over time than that of silicone gel breast implants as well as those implants that have been placed over the muscle. Textured saline implants seem to be notorious for causing wrinkling. Overfill or under filling of the implants can also cause this problem. Thinner skinned patients also tend to have more of a problem with visible wrinkling in their breast implants than those that have more breast tissue to work with.
If you find yourself having wrinkles in your breast implants that are visibly noticeable there are a couple of options to fix this. One is to have another breast surgery and have the implants replaced. If the placement caused the wrinkled implant you may want to talk with your surgeon about having the implant placed in another way such as in a partial sub-muscular place or in a complete sub-muscular place. You may also opt to switch out textured saline implants for those that are silicone gel filled. If you find that your implant wrinkles are caused by thin tissue over your implants there is also the option available to have fat injections into the tissue. The injections would probably one of the more drastic actions to do. When you talk to your surgeon about the wrinkling they will be able to go over all of these options with you.
